Children's Dance Classes Manhattan

Teaching

I have been teaching dance for over 10 years. My style and approach has evolved over those years and I have been able to fine tune my skill set. I am often asked how I teach or what my approach is…. For me it is a very simple approach I do not feel the need to dumb down/water down dance to any age group I teach. In my classes I do not use words such as “pizza feet” for first position. First position is simply first position! Children are able to handle so much more than we give them credit for. I simply use the proper terminology for everything we do in class and believe it or not the
children actually are able to learn all the terminology given to them in a short amount of time just from simple repetition. I also will only use classical music in my ballet classes from the youngest to the oldest students. Dance is a whole body experience and children in my classes are given the opportunity to learn to appreciate the music that makes ballerinas able to dance ballet. I am far from a stiff ballet Marm. My students enjoy themselves and have fun as well as myself. With all of this said my teaching style is not for everyone. If you are looking for a class with fairy wings, bubbles, running around and not much ballet you need to find a more suitable class for your child. But for those who are looking for a real ballet experience for their child this might just be the place for you.

Registration

with 2 comments

In order to have a spot held in any of our classes we must receive the registration form along with the tuition payment.  With all the interest in classes for the fall I need to know how many actual spots we have for each of the classes. Thank you.

Where to buy dance attire

leave a comment »

Capezio in Times Sqaure is a great place to get all of the essentials for your dance attire for the new semester. They have a full line of children’s leotards, tights, and shoes. They also have shoe fitters which can be helpful for the younger set.

If you don’t want to leave the comfort of your apartment to buy your dance  wear needs I highly reccomend Discount Dance Supply online. I have used them for many years for myself as well as all my studio needs for shows I have done in the past. They ship fast and they have a great return policy.

Have fun shopping for your new attire and I can’t wait to start dancing in the fall!

My Inspiration….

leave a comment »

“Let us first teach little children to breathe, to vibrate, to feel, and to become one with the general harmony and movement of nature. Let us first produce a beautiful human being, a dancing child.”–Isadora Duncan
This is one of my favorite quotes. Isadora Duncan has inspired me throughout my dance life and this quote is one of the reasons I teach. It is a true blessing and honor to be able to watch my students grow each week as dancers. I am always amazed at what they are able to achieve. I hope they learn as much from me as I do from them!
