Petite Ballet

Our Petite Ballet class is a parent/caregiver class. I found with this young age group it is imperative that someone they trust does class with them. It allows them to follow along better. We start class off in a circle and stretch then move on to our pliés, tendus, piqués and tiptoes. All this is done holding hands in a circle. We then move on to across the floor work grand battements, tip toes, bourées etc. then we move back to the circle to repeat beginning exercises. I find children like repetition and find a sense of accomplishment when they know what’s coming next. We also do a fun freeze dance ballet where they are able to freely dance to classical music. We end class with a simple reverence and our arm positions.
I have had great success with this class and have been teaching the 2’s this way for 7 years.  I always tell people it takes a minimum of 6 weeks for a child to adjust and find their rhythm within the class.
